Configure Outlook 2010 for IMAP on the Exchange Server
All staff and faculty have Exchange accounts. However, some may be the owner of more than one Exchange email addresses. In that case, if you want all your Exchange accounts to exist on one Outlook client profile, you may choose to set up your secondary Exchange email address(s) as IMAP instead of Exchange, because Outlook only allows you to set up one Exchange account for one given profile.
- Start Outlook 2010
- Click the File tab to go into the Outlook 2010 "backstage view"
- Click the Add Account button
- The Add New Account window will open
- Click the Manually configure server settings or additional server types radio button
- Click Next >
- Ensure the Internet E-mail radio button is selected and then click Next
- Now set your Internet E-mail Settings
- Fill in the fields with your e-mail information with the appropriate information
- For Account Type, ensure IMAP is selected from the drop down list
- Fill in the Incoming and Outgoing mail server fields with qwa.queensu.ca
- Click the More settings... button
- The More Settings window will now open
- Click the Outgoing Server tab
- Ensure that My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is selected
- Select the Use same settings as my incoming mail server radio button
- Click the Advanced tab
- In the Advanced Tab
- Fill the Incoming Server (IMAP) field with 993
- Fill the Outgoing server (SMTP) field with 465
- Select SSLfrom the Use the following type of encrypted connection: drop down list
- Click the OK button
- Click Next again
- Outlook will send you a test e-mail
- If all the setting was set correctly, the test will be successful.
- Click Close
- Click Finish
- Your e-mail inbox will appear in the left pane and is ready for use
