Queen’s will secure our global reputation in discovery and inquiry

No other university in Canada offers Queen’s combination of a rich, residential experience embedded in one of the country’s top research-intensive universities.

Queen’s research is the backbone of the learning experience for our graduate students and post-doctoral researchers, providing undergraduates with experiential learning opportunities and the chance to work among the top researchers in the world.

Queen’s faculty and students are not afraid to ask the questions no one else is asking and to challenge existing thinking. We put issues first and then we look at those issues differently. We search beyond the expected and combine thinking – and thinkers – in new and creative ways.

Because we strive for research excellence, we put innovation at the core of all we do. It is reflected in how we work, the quality of that work and the way we translate it for broader societal benefit. For instance, PARTEQ, Queen’s commercialization arm, has facilitated the creation of 44 world-wide spinoff companies that have attracted more than $1 billion in investment.

Queen's will exemplify the balanced academy, where our learning experience is enriched and inextricably linked to our research-intensive environment.

We must be at the forefront of inquiry and we must have the resources to explore the frontiers of knowledge.

With the support of the Initiative Campaign, we will:

Invest strategically, focusing funding in areas where we have the potential to make the biggest difference

Including: Exploring human dimensions; understanding and sustaining the environment and energy systems; discovering and innovating; and securing safe and successful societies.

Create or reinforce institutes, centres and schools in established and emerging areas of strength

We will secure funding for Chairs, Professors and Fellows in areas of national and international importance. We will be thinking ahead, renewing our faculty with the emerging leaders who will shape inquiry in the future.

Ensure that our research environment supports our exceptional people

That means flexible space, leading-edge technology and the resources necessary to do the work.
