  • Introduction of Queen's MyHR

    This fall, Queen’s will introduce MyHR, a new online portal where employees can access and edit some of their Human Resources-related information. The portal will be introduced as part of the upgrade to the HR PeopleSoft system.

  • Benefit Premiums Update for Members of the Group Benefit Plans

    The Human Resources, Total Compensation unit and Great-West Life, the university’s group benefit provider recently concluded the annual review of the rates for Queen’s group benefit program. Great-West Life has informed the university of a number of rate changes this year. The following tables show the rates that were in place over the previous year and the new rates that will take effect on July 1, 2015.

    The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 requires that the University disclose the salary and benefits paid in respect to employment by the University to faculty and staff who had earnings in the previous year of $100,000 or more.

  • Amended 2015 Monthly Calendar

    Payroll has revised the Monthly Calendar that was posted in early January for calendar year 2015. Please note that there is only one change which impacts the month of May. The May monthly cut off has been changed from May 15th to May 14th.

    The Childcare Support Application System is currently unavailable due to a hardware failure which occurred February 25th, 2015. Technical support staff are actively working to fix the problem. Once the service has been restored, this newsfeed will be updated.

  • Final Pension Plan Contribution Increase

    The last of the phased-in increases to member pension plan contributions was implemented with January’s payroll.

    Members of the Queens Pension Plan (QPP) can make Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs) by payroll deduction each month without interruption, subject to a monthly contribution limit based on annual pensionable salary.

  • Staff Appreciation Day December 10

    Queen’s will celebrate the extraordinary efforts of its staff with various activities and festivities on December 10. “Staff Appreciation Day is a chance to recognize our staff members and the important work they do all year long,” says Al Orth, Associate Vice-Principal (Human Resources). “As the day approaches, we encourage managers and all community members to reflect on the contributions of Queen’s staff and show your appreciation in any way you can.”

  • Pension Plan AGM Set for December 6

    The annual meeting of the Queen’s Pension Plan will be held at 1pm on Friday, December 6, 2013, in Dunning Hall Auditorium.

  • Annual AVC Lump Sum Contributions

    Members of the Queen’s Pension Plan (QPP) with pensionable earnings under $160,000 can make Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs) to their pension accounts in one of two ways, either by monthly payroll deduction or by a single lump sum payment at the end of the year.

  • Tuition Support Plan

    The 2013/14 application system for the Tuition Support Plan will be available effective August 15, 2013.

  • Annual salary increases processed for applicable employee groups on July pay deposit.

    Annual salary increases for employees in the General Staff groups (Confidential and Research, United Steelworkers Local 2010), CUPE Locals 229, 254 and 1302, and OPSEU Local 452 were processed on July 1, 2013 as per applicable salary programs. The new rates will be reflected in gross pay amounts on paystubs issued in July.

  • Benefit Premiums Update for Members of the Group Benefit Plans

    The Human Resources, Total Compensation unit recently concluded the annual review of the group benefit program with the University’s provider, Great-West Life. Most premiums for 2013-14 have slightly increased.

  • General Staff May 31st Pay Issue

    Please be advised that there was an error with May monthly payroll that affected General Staff. Regular hours have been processed and will be deposited on May 31st. Exception reporting for things such as vacation, sick days, lieu time used, etc. however, were not processed. These items do not affect May’s earnings. Earnings such as callback, shift premiums, and overtime (paid not banked) were also not processed. These items do have an effect on May’s earnings. Adjustments for May will be processed with the June monthly payroll. In extenuating circumstances, an off cycle cheque will be issued.

  • USW Humanity Fund Opt-out period for Current Employees Extended

    The University and the USW have agreed to re-open the Opt-Out period for existing/current employees in the USW bargaining unit. Initially, employees were required to Opt-Out of the Fund within 120 days of ratification of the new collective agreement. Now, employees who wish to opt-out of payroll deductions for the USW Humanity Fund can do so at any time by submitting the Opt-Out form.

  • Pension Statements in Production

    The 2012 Pension and Benefit Statements are in production and campus delivery is expected to begin on Tuesday (April 23). Human Resources apologizes for the significant delay in providing Plan members with their balances and projections which we appreciate play an important role in financial and retirement planning -- so much so that it was of primary importance to ensure the content was as accurate as possible, particularly in light of massive conversion of legacy data to HR PeopleSoft. Unfortunately, validation and reconciliation proved to be far more demanding (and time consuming) than anticipated, and not all issues were immediately apparent; that being said, a lot was learned along the way and we expect a return to timely delivery dates for 2013.

    T4s and T4As have been issued by internal mail for all active employees (just as pay stubs are issued); T4s and T4As for all others were issued through Canada Post to the address on file with Queen’s Human Resources.

  • January payments to Graduate Research Assistants - UPDATE

    An issue has been identified regarding the dollar amount of payments made to a number of Graduate Research Assistants for the period ending January 31, 2013. The original payments were issued by Electronic Funds Transfer yesterday morning (Tuesday January 29th), and accompanying Payment Advice emails were sent out accordingly. It was identified that a number of these payments were for incorrect dollar amounts, following which a second round of payments were calculated to adjust total amounts paid out up to the proper amounts for the affected Graduate Research Assistants. This second round of payments has been processed today (Wednesday, January 30th), and therefore, the issue of incorrect payment amounts is now resolved.

    The February and March monthly payroll calendars have been established. Please take note of the early payroll deadline dates of February 13th and March 14th to accommodate the production of T4s and the year-end process. The monthly payroll calendars for the remainder of the year will be posted by March 31st, 2013.

    Please see below for instructions on renewing research contracts and how the July 1, 2012 salary increase program will be applied. As the Contract Hire System is available and paper contracts are no longer needed, the process is different from previous years.
