Better Beginnings for Kingston Children offers programs and supports for families with children from 0-5 years living in north Kingston. Programs include prenatal education and support, home visiting, parent-child support groups, parenting programs, and school readiness programs.

All our services are free; assistance with transportation and childcare are provided when needed.

The Child Development Centre, located at Hotel Dieu Hospital, provides assessment and treatment for children who are physically and/or developmentally challenged. Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, speech pathologists, psychologists, paediatricians, and infant development workers provide services for children from birth to nineteen years of age. Children are generally referred by a physician. Augmentative Communication Service (ACS) Kingston is also housed and administered by Hotel Dieu Hospital. This program offers technology and/or alternatives to speech or handwriting for those who have difficulty meeting their daily communication needs.

The Ontario Early Years Program works in collaboration with the Childcare Resource Centre Program to provide support and services for parents and caregivers with children from birth to six years of age. They offer a variety of parenting programs, and have a resource library that contains books on topics such as parenting, child care, activities for children, health and child development. Onsite and mobile toy and resource libraries are available at a number of locations. A newsletter is distributed four times per year. Playgroups operate at various locations for parents and caregivers with children from birth to 6 years of age. Playgroups that are offered on site at our Early Years Centre are Friday's and Saturday's from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and is located at: 1178 County Rd # 8, Napanee, ON K7R 3K7. Trained staff, answer the phone to provide information, guidance, and support to anyone with child care concerns or questions. All services are free of charge. Open 12 months of the year.

The Ontario Early Years Centre for Kingston and the Islands supports and empowers parents and caregivers with children birth to 6 years of age. In collaboration with volunteers and community partners, early childhood educators foster healthy child development and positive parenting skills. They offer a variety of parenting programs and services, Early Learning Programs (playgroups), workshops, amongst many other services. The Centre is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All services are free of charge.

The toy library has approximately 500 toys for infants through school age children. The loaning period is one week and parents are allowed to take out two toys at a time. Children’s books, cassette tapes, picture, and felt stories are also available. A Community Resident Card is available for $15 per year for those not enrolled at St. Lawrence College.

Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington Ontario Early Years Centre is a place for children up to the age of six and their parents and caregivers to take part in programs and activities together. The Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington Ontario Early Years Centre also brings together, in one location, information about children's services and programs in the community. The main site is located in Sharbot Lake with two unique satellites in Napanee and Bancroft.
