Flags on campus are lowered in memory of associate professor Geoff Lockwood (Physics, Engineering Physics and Astronomy).
Dr. Lockwood returned to Canada and joined Queen’s in 1999 after serving as a scientist at the Cleveland Clinic and holding adjunct positions at Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve University.
At Queen’s, he continued his work in high-frequency medical ultrasound imaging. His research group worked on everything from designing miniature integrated circuit beamformers to real-time 3D ultrasound imaging. He served as the undergraduate chair of engineering physics and eventually the head of the Department of Physics.
Dr. Lockwood also loved teaching, delivering lectures with an intelligence and care that left no student behind. His dedication to students earned him numerous teaching awards in engineering physics.
Dr. Lockwood’s family does not wish to have a memorial service and has asked for no flowers. If you wish, a donation in Dr. Lockwood’s name to the United Way serving Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington would be greatly appreciated by his family.
