One of Canada’s most prominent scholarly presses has released a fresh crop of titles for 2013. The latest catalogue from the McGill-Queen’s University Press is now available online, boasting new offerings in history, politics, linguistics, art, culture and beyond.

“These offerings reflect the press’s reputation for high-quality scholarly publishing and increasing visibility in Canada, the US and Europe,” says Alan Harrison, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic).

A joint venture of McGill University and Queen’s University, the McGill-Queen’s University Press has published over 2,800 books. The press aims to advance scholarship and contribute to culture, with a focus on both the Canadian perspective and international themes.

This year’s featured titles include Donald J. Savoie’s Whatever Happened to the Music Teacher, which explores the forces shaping Ottawa’s expenditure budget and relations between politicians and public servants, and Judy Thompson’s Women’s Work, Women’s Art, an illustrated study of the dress and adornment traditions of the Indigenous peoples in North America’s western subarctic.

Bilingual Being by Kathleen Saint-Onge is a memoir about growing up bilingual in mid-century Quebec, and using language to reshape life after trauma. George Fetherling’s The Writing Life presents a prolific author’s look at leading figures in Canada’s cultural landscape as told through 30 years worth daily journal entries.
