Statement on Student Poverty

Statement on Student Poverty

The Queen’s University English Department stands in solidarity with students, student groups, and activists working to end student poverty. Our University’s Mission—“to offer an exceptional student experience… in service to an inclusive, diverse and sustainable society”—is fundamentally compromised as student poverty erects barriers to inclusion and success. Furthermore, student poverty is counter to the very Values for which Queen’s University stands, including “Responsibility,” “Respect,” and “Wellbeing.” The English Department is committed to working with university administrators, student leaders, and government bodies to find actionable, impactful, and sustainable solutions to this urgent problem.
