"Pedagogies of Il/liberal Humanism"

Dr. Kandice Chuh

English, American Studies, and Critical Social Psychology, CUNY Graduate Center
President, American Studies Association, 2017-18

Can the humanities be oriented toward histories of the impoverishment of peoples and worlds, enslaved and gendered labor, Indigenous dispossession, and developmentalism, rather than the unifying ideals of liberalism? This lecture proposes as a collective project for the humanities the elicitation of capacities for reckoning with these entangled conditions.

The Sister Sophie lectures in the Department of English are made possible by a generous donation from Sophie Yang director of the Sister Sophie Ltd school in Markham, Ontario.
