PUTL Certificate I: Foundations HEADER

A Certificate in Foundations aims to recognize your development in foundational issues and topics regarding teaching and learning. The certificate will be awarded to applicants who demonstrate the ability to:

  • Recognize foundational issues and topics of university teaching and learning.
  • Articulate beliefs, attitudes, and philosophies towards university teaching and learning, as informed by foundational concepts of teaching and learning.

The Certificate in Foundations requires completion of two parts:

Part 1: Document your participation in six individual CTL sessions or Expanding Horizons workshops on teaching and learning 

Part 2 - Option 1: Compose a guided reflection


Part 2 - Option 2: Compose a Draft Teaching Philosophy Statement 

Submission Procedure

After completing the requirements of Part 1 and Part 2 as outlined in the links above, submit the following documents in hard copy to the CTL:

As you complete the requirements of the certificate, you may find the following Certificate in Foundations Rubric to be helpful. This rubric is used by CTL Staff to review and assess submissions.

Submissions are reviewed in the order they are received. Typically applicants can expect to receive an email response to their submission within 10 business days following the submission date. Awarded certificates are made available for pick up at the front desk of the CTL.
