It is with the greatest pleasure that we send our wishes and bid farewell to the graduating class (June 2011) of Classics concentrators. We wish you all the best with future endeavours and adventures. To all of our wonderful graduates ~ GRATULAMUR VOBIS ~ ~ We also would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the outgoing Departmental Student Council and applaud them on a job well done. The Classics DSC has distinguished themselves over the past couple of years with many well-planned events such as hosting a talk (Dr. Greg Fisher, Carleton University, Arab Allies of Greece and Rome in Late Antiquity) as well as the recent ambitious (and most successful!) Classics Symposium which saw 4 speakers(Hugh Elton from Trent University, Elizabeth Klassen from Carleton, Richard Parker from Brock, and John Serrati from McGill) on the theme of Ancient Warfare. The DSC has organized meet-your-professor events, movie nights, departmental clothing-mug sales, bake and book sales, end-of-the-year dinners, and were so fiscally wise that they were able to subsidize a number of the end of term banquets so that students and faculty only paid a small portion of overall costs for these truly delightful gatherings. The Department was touched by the departing presentation of a Liddell and Scott Greek-English Lexicon which will be well used by students and faculty for years to come. We wish to thank all of this year’s DSC members (please see a listing of names on the attached inscription) for their hard work, and in particular wish to extend our gratitude to the President, Vice-President and Social Executives - Craig Harvey, Samantha Rice, Sarah McCutcheon and Paul Clement - for their enthusiasm, generosity, and as role models of dedicated students to their discipline, and to a boundless work ethic. ~ On behalf of all members of the department, GRATIAS AGIMUS, VALETE Anne M.
