Educational Programming

Student Services delivers intentional living and learning experiences that promote students’ overall well-being and support personal, social and intellectual growth and development.

We support our students with an awareness and understanding of their multiple and diverse social identities (race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, ability etc.). Our residence community is guided by the principles of intentionality, authenticity, reflection, participation, inclusion, self-determination, collaboration and sustainability.

Student Services focuses on four developmental areas to guide our intentional living and learning experiences:

  • Personal & Social – helping students develop greater self-awareness and opportunities to relate to others
  • Community – helping students understand personal and social identities, and their responsibility to their community
  • Intellectual – helping student develop critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Health & Wellness – helping students achieve balance in all areas of their lives

A few examples of the programming and activities we have delivered include:

  • Micro-Tyco - a competition that enables participants to learn and practice fundamental business principles in a safe ‘microenvironment’. All money created is invested in micro-loans for poor entrepreneurs in the developing world
  • Wanderlust - an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to showcase and share their travel experiences
  • Shot for Shot - alcohol awareness
  • MLK Day - a screening and debrief of Selma
  • Bake-off and Coffee Afternoon - fundraiser for MacMillan Cancer Support
  • Friend to Friend - mental health training
  • Trips to Stonehenge, Bath, Oxford, Vimy, Ypres, and more - taking you to key cultural and historical sites in the UK and Europe
  • Positive Space - a program designed to encourage the development of locations in which sexual and gender identity is affirmed and individuals can receive support and information on lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ) issues
  • Dodgeball - as intramurals and pick-up games
  • Tag Rugby - if you don't have time to join one of the local rugby teams
  • Trivia Nights - test your general knowledge against others students, as well as faculty and staff
