Ms. Gilchrist, who is an opera singer by profession, and the founding Artistic Director of Ottawa’s Opera Lyra, is currently enrolled in a research and creative practice PhD in the area of emotion in music, examining expressive vocal gestures with an emphasis on portamento. Her research interests include performativity, the functionality and aesthetics of music, some areas of neuroscience and music, and performance practice in 18th and 19th century vocal music.
