INTS 324-002/3.0 - International Perspectives in the Creative Arts: Digital Media and the Creative Industries

This course focuses on the working relationship between the music industry and digital culture. It will discuss current trends in distribution and consumption of (digital) media and music, and how it has had an impact on the music industry and society. The topics that will be discussed include: the past and present of popular music (technology) and the music business; creativity and issues in popular music (sampling and Intellectual Property Rights); music activism, consumption and distribution in the Digital Age; and the authenticity of the ‘Pop Star’. This course is suitable for students who are interested in the current trends of digital musical practices and/or who are majoring in music, media and commerce.
