Friends of the Fowler Herbarium

Over the last few decades, volunteers from both the student community and the general public have played an important role in running the herbarium.

The "friends" of the herbarium perform the essential day-to-day chores of mounting, identifying and cataloguing specimens, and in return,  gain experience in plant taxonomy and biodiversity.
Through their efforts, the volunteers not only keep the facility running, but form an important link between the herbarium and the broader Kingston community.

A major task currently underway is the creation of an on-line database of all of our herbarium specimens.  This year, we have ten volunteers working hard at uploading data from more than 140,000 specimens.
