Homecoming is a unique and special event for Queen’s – it holds a special place in the hearts of Queen’s students and alumni and we all want this year’s return of Homecoming to be a success. The decision to reinstate Homecoming for this year wasn’t made lightly; we all remember why it was suspended – but we have been encouraged by the good judgment people have shown in the years since its suspension.
Our vision is for the new Queen’s Homecoming to celebrate the spirit and initiative that makes Queen’s the unique university that it is, and to do so in a safe and respectful way. It will offer events that allow alumni, students and the community to connect with each other. Each weekend will feature signature events for invited alumni, as well as events for students and members of the Queen’s and Kingston communities to connect with alumni. Events include two football games, a scavenger hunt with clues planted throughout campus and Kingston, and a food drive called Queen’s Gives Back in support of the Partners in Mission Food Bank. More information on the weekends’ events can be found on the Homecoming website.
In the past, alumni attending Homecoming events have had difficulty finding available hotel rooms, restaurants, etc. Each year Queen’s graduates some 4500 new alumni. Two weekends will help ease that pressure on local businesses and services and allow alumni to instead focus on the camaraderie of Homecoming.
