Dear BMus’73 Classmates,
Homecoming 2013 marks the 40th Reunion for the class of 1973 and I would like to take this opportunity to invite you all back home to Queen's for the weekend. As a member of BMus’73, I’ve offered to organize some weekend activities for our group. I hope you are just excited as I am and are able to join me!
As you may know there are now two dates for Homecoming in 2013, with the first being October 4th to 6th, and the second being October 18th to 20th. The weekend designated for the Class of 1973 is October 18th to 20th, which is conveniently also the weekend the School of Music will be presenting SHOWCASE on Friday, October 18th.
There will be detailed information in the 2013 Music Alumni Newsletter; however, some of the information below is specific to our year.
The School of Music will present SHOWCASE in Grant Hall and seating will be reserved for School of Music alumni as well as past and present faculty members. Information about how to purchase tickets will be made available soon. Please let me know if you plan to attend (# 1).
(a) Coffee Meet and Greet:
The School of Music will organize this event from 9:30 – 10:30am in the foyer of Harrison-LeCaine Hall. There will be photos from the past to view and School of Music staff and faculty members and perhaps some 4th year students will be attending.
Classmates: Please let me know if you are able to attend the Coffee Meet and Greet (# 2). We will have a bulletin board available to us in Harrison-LeCaine Hall and it would be wonderful if you could bring a photo or more to post for the weekend!
(b) Official Alumni Photo:
The School of Music will organize a group photo to be taken at: 10:30 a.m. Please be ready by 10:15 a.m. since as soon as the picture is taken we need to go to Panda Garden for 11:00 a.m.
(c) Lunch for BMus’73:
We have arranged to have a lunch at 11:00 am at the Panda Garden in Kingston. A room has been reserved. An invitation to Margaret Walker (present Head of Music); Shirley Roth (Secretary); and past (‘69 -73) faculty has been extended to them (but not the present faculty). I would appreciate knowing if you plan to attend the lunch (mention if you have a spouse/partner/friend as well)…so I can have numbers for lunch (#3).
(d) Football Game:
For anyone who is interested – Queen’s plays Guelph on Saturday, October 19th, with a 1 pm kickoff. It would be great if we could all attend together. We can arrange to sit together, and we can even carry our music banner around the field during the half time parade! Please let me know if this would be of interest to you (# 4).
The School of Music will be arranging a dinner at a local restaurant on Saturday night at 8:00 pm for all alumni. Please see the School of Music Alumni Newsletter for information.
3) Sunday, October 20, 2013:
Traditionally alumni get together with friends and do their own thing. This year there will be planned Queen's activities. Unfortunately, I do not know details right now, but you might want to keep a close eye on the Queen's Homecoming site. The site presently states that program information will be finalized in March. We may try to have a brunch at one of the restaurants if there is enough interest. Please let me know if you are interested in a noon brunch (# 5).
1. '73 Grads / Faculty – Bios: I would like to see some background information about you over the years…what you have done…musically, family, positions, interests, etc. If you are willing…then I would make it available to our '73 grads. Let me know your thoughts on this and whether it could be posted on the bulletin board as well. I would appreciate you sending this to me by email as soon as possible (# 6).
2. Does anyone have any contact information on: Ms. Coleen Johnston / Ms. Colleen A. Lang? If you do, can you either send it to me or contact them with my e-mail address and ask them to contact me.
Please let me know your thoughts on the above # 1 – 6 at your earliest convenience and I look forward to hearing from you.
