Smartphone Data and Public Health Research

Hybrid event (in-person and virtual)

Join us for an exciting talk about the future of research using smartphone data. This event is open to the public and will feature three experts discussing the field of mobility data research.

Christopher Allison, Chief Data Officer for the Public Health Agency of Canada, will share insights into this evolving field.

Sahar Saeed, Assistant Professor at Queen's Department of Public Health Sciences, focuses on the intersection of policy evaluation, health outcome disparities, and knowledge translation.  As an epidemiologist and health services researcher, Sahar investigates population-level health inequalities of marginalized and racialized populations, including people living with HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, COVID-19 and chronic liver diseases.

Martin French, Associate Professor at Concordia's Department of Sociology and Anthropology, studies the social dimensions of technology with an empirical focus on communications and information technology (CIT). He focuses on the broader social and political contexts of CIT, especially risk, surveillance, privacy, and social justice.

Following the presentations by our experts, we'll open the floor for a discussion between the audience and the panelists. This is a public outreach event to engage the local community in an open dialogue regarding the use of smartphone data for research or health promotion. Lunch is provided for attendees joining in person.

For those attending in person, the Tett can be accessed from the front, north entrance on King Street West and the rear, south patio entrance. The front doors are automatic sliding doors. If necessary, access to a side loading door can be provided. Tett staff is available to assist patrons at the main entrance. Please contact Tett staff prior to arrival to arrange assistance. There are accessible parking spaces in the Tett’s front parking lot. Each floor has a washroom that is accessible to patrons using wheelchairs. These facilities are equipped with adult changing tables and emergency buttons.
