NetIDs-- Frequently Asked Questions

What is a NetID?

Your NetID is your network identity at Queen’s. It is the “user ID” needed to sign on to applications and online services, including Queen’s email and calendar services. Queen's has now assigned  NetIDs to all alumni, even those who didn't use NetIDs as students, so that you can  access new online services.

As a Queen’s alumnus, you can now use your NetID for the following:

Instructions for activating Your NetID

  • If you know your NetID, but don’t remember your password,  you can re-set it through IT Services, if you have previously set up challenge questions and an alternate email address.

  • If you have forgotten your password and have not previously set up challenge questions, you will need to call our Contact Centre at 1.800.267.7837 (Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm ET) or email for a password re-set.

  • If you have never used a NetID, but you remember your student number, you can activate your  NetID. (Need help? Read "Activating Your NetID.")

Note: Your NetID can be activated only once. If you activated your NetID as a student and now need to use your NetID again as an alumnus, you do not need to activate it again. However, you will need to reset your password.

  • If you don’t know your NetID or student number or if you have any problems during this process, please email or call our Contact Centre at 1.800.267.7837 (Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm ET.)

Can I use my faculty/staff NetID?

If you are a current member of Queen’s faculty or staff, you will have a different NetID than the one you had when you were a student. Faculty and staff NetIDs are not interchangeable with alumni NetIDs. You will need to use your alumni NetID for these services. In most cases, this will be the same as your student NetID.

I am a Queen's affiliate. Can I get a NetID?

We currently offer NetIDs to Queen’s alumni (graduates of undergrad, graduate, or professional programs at Queen’s) and “alumni non-grads” (those who have completed at least a year of courses and whose class has graduated.) We do not currently offer access to Queen’s affiliates (those who have completed studies at the  Bader International Study Centre,  post-doctoral fellowships, Post-Graduate Medical Education, or Primary Care Residents) but access may be given in the future.
