The Universities are Monitoring the Impact of Labour Disruptions on Applications for Admission

At this time, Ontario university applications from secondary school students are being received as expected. However, the universities are aware that some students and parents are concerned about the possible impact that work-to-rule and rotating strikes by Ontario secondary school teachers may have, particularly in relation to letters of recommendation and other supplementary submissions.

The universities and the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) are monitoring developments carefully. In the event of a disruption to the application process, the OUAC and the universities will work together to mitigate any circumstances outside of the applicant's control.

Additionally, each university, according to its own requirements and processes, may: seek alternative sources of supplementary information if school officials cannot assist in meeting necessary submission deadlines; and/or review supplementary information on a case-by-case basis.

The OUAC will update this message as more information becomes available. Each university may also update their admission websites with additional guidelines for applicants. Students are encouraged to check these websites regularly for new information.
