Program Requirements
MA (12 Months)
The requirements of the MA are 3 Core Courses listed below + 2 electives + Thesis or Project (SCCS 899). The MA thesis is approximately 15000 words in length and should be finished and defended before a committee within the year.

Students can take one elective in cognate programs upon approval.
THESIS
The MA thesis requirement can take any of the four following formats, depending on the focus of the student:
- a traditional 15000 word thesis;
- a media work with a 5000 word companion document situating the work into larger debates in the field;
- a curatorial project/installation with a 5000 word companion document situating the work into larger debates in the field; and
- a video essay synthesizing studies, curatorial and production questions, a 5000 word companion document situating the work into larger debates in the field.
The thesis must be successfully defended in accordance with the general regulations of the School of Graduate Studies (Thesis).
