Surface-to-air missiles will be installed on London apartment
Queen’s University expert Vincent Mosco is available to comment on residents in London, England trying to legally prevent the British military from installing surface-to-air missiles on the roof of their apartment during the Olympic Games. A judge recently dismissed the challenge.
“The decision underscores the stark contrast between the Olympic spirit and the extraordinary measures deemed necessary to counter the threat of terrorism,” says Dr. Mosco. The sociology professor studies protest movements and civil disobedience and can also comment on protests and riots that could, potentially, disrupt the Games.
The British military plan to deploy surface-to-air missiles at six sites around London as part of a vast security operation for the Games. Residents of the 17-storey building are afraid their living space would become the focus of a terrorist attack.
