Crisis in the euro zone: Queen's University expert
Queen’s University expert Phil Guirlando is available to talk about the banking crisis in Spain that has caused G7 leaders to hold an emergency meeting today.
Mr. Giurlando says that it will take drastic measures to resuscitate the European currency now used in 17 nations.
“The only thing that will save the euro zone is instruments that will make German taxpayers liable for all euro zone debt,” says Mr. Giurlando, a PhD candidate in political studies who is writing his thesis on the euro. “In return, Germany wants veto power over euro zone national budgets. There is very little political will for that kind of German dominance over the continent.”
Please note Mr. Giurlando is based in Toronto.
