Queen's community gives $1-million to university initiatives
Over 700 faculty, staff and retirees donated approximately $1-million to various areas of the university over the last year.
“That money will go a long way to support the outstanding work that happens at Queen’s. Members of the Queen’s family have sent a clear message that they support our university,” says outgoing Campus Community Appeal faculty co-chair Peter Taylor (Mathematics and Statistics).
Many community members participated in Doors Open Queen’s, the signature event of the Campus Community Appeal, and saw how their donations helped fund the great work faculty and students do every day.
“It has been inspiring to hear the stories of Queen’s staff and faculty, who have directed their gifts to support areas that matter to them – from student awards and bursaries to research in areas like autism, bullying and cancer,” says outgoing staff co-chair Jennifer Smith (Advancement).
The Campus Community Appeal 2011 drew to an official close last week with two celebration events. Queen’s community members who gave gifts to the university during the last fiscal year were honoured at a donor appreciation event. As well, the inaugural Grant Hall Society reception for faculty, staff and retirees was held at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre.
Tim Fort (Drama) and Monica Stewart (Office of the V-P Academic) will continue in their roles as Campus Community Appeal co-chairs in the upcoming academic year, and will be seeking two new faces to join them. Outgoing co-chairs Peter Taylor and Jennifer Smith will step down as their two-year terms come to an end.
