Two students preparing to study at Queen’s University this fall 2012 are receiving a Schulich Leader Scholarships. Daniel Hu from St. Robert Catholic High School in Thornhill, Ontario and Roose Clifford Lerebours from St. Patrick's High School in Ottawa, Ontario are two of the 40 in inaugural award recipients.

The annual program recognizes students across Canada who demonstrate excellence in academics and community leadership and are planning to study science, technology, engineering or math at one of 20 Canadian institutions. The awards are valued at $60,000 over four years.

Schulich Leader Scholarships were created by Canadian business leader and philanthropist Seymour Schulich. The program is managed and administered by the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. In addition to the Canadian program, a similar Schulich Leader Scholarships program is being carried out in Israel.

The $100 million scholarship initiative was implemented to secure the future economic competitiveness of Canada and Israel and is designed to ensure that future Canadian and Israeli leaders are among the next pioneers of global scientific research and innovation. In 2012 there will be 40 Canadian and 10 Israeli Schulich Leaders.
