University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) Registration Process for the 2012-2013 Academic Year

UHIP is the University Health Insurance Plan, a mandatory health plan for all international students and their dependents (spouse and children), and other students that do not have valid Canadian provincial / territorial health insurance while attending Queen’s University.

The NEW Registration process is as follows:

  • All international students registered at Queen’s will be automatically enrolled in single person UHIP.  The cost will be applied directly to the student’s SOLUS account and the duration of coverage is pre-determined based on the student’s registration status at the university.
  • International students with dependents, must visit the International Centre (Room 117, JDUC) within the first 30 days to enrol or re-enrol their dependents in UHIP.  Failure to do so will result in a $ 500 late enrolment penalty plus charges for retroactive UHIP fees.
  • Newly returned Canadian students that do not yet have valid Canadian provincial / territorial health insurance must visit the International Centre (Room 117, JDUC) within their first 30 days to enrol in UHIP until proof of their Canadian coverage can be provided.

ALL students listed above are required to visit the International Centre soon after arrival to finalize the UHIP registration process and to learn how to activate their UHIP card through a new on-line system.  This process will provide proof of UHIP coverage, a requirement for all doctor and hospital visits.
