Promoting fitness one step at a time
Steps to Wellness Walking Club will help faculty and staff to stay fit this summer. Shannon Hill and Tiffany Bambrick are organizing the program.A new collaborative program aims to help staff and faculty make fitness part of the workday.
Steps to Wellness Walking Club, sponsored jointly by Queen’s Human Resources and the Department of Athletics and Recreation, is a free program led by certified, experienced instructors and is appropriate for people at any fitness level.
“With so many other priorities in our lives, we forget our health should be number one,” says Tiffany Bambrick, one of the program coordinators from Athletics and Recreation. “We want to create an opportunity for people to make it easier to exercise and stay fit.”
The new program is part of an ongoing series of activities aimed at helping Queen’s staff and faculty work wellness into their everyday lives. Instructors will provide information on topics related to a healthy lifestyle in addition to the active part of the program. Subjects including walking safety, healthy eating, and recipes will be covered. All participants will receive a free pedometer to keep track of their progress.
The program begins next week with sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch. The first session will take place indoors where instructors will introduce the goals of the program. Further sessions will take place outside, rain or shine.
