The following awards have been made available thanks to the generosity of Queen's donors.
Students who apply to Queen's University will be automatically considered for the following awards. Most of these awards are based on grades. When a student is offered admission to Queen's they will be notified if they have been selected to an automatic admission award.
Established in January 2010 by Chancellor David Dodge, B.A (Hons.) 1965, LL.D. 2002, and Christiane Dodge, B.A. 1964 and awarded on the basis of academic achievement to Aboriginal students entering first year of any undergraduate degree program under an Aboriginal Admission Policy
Established in January 2012 by the Estates of E. Stanley Beacock, B.A. 1942, and Nadine M. Beacock in addition to the proceeds of a Charitable Remainder Trust created by Nadine M. Beacock. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering first year of any first entry undergraduate degree program. The award is renewable for three years provided a minimum GPA of 3.5 is maintained in a full-time course load in each subsequent year.
Awarded to the top individual speaker at the Canadian National High School Debating Tournament who registers in the first year of a first entry undergraduate program at Queen's University.
Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year of a direct-entry undergraduate degree program at Queen's University.
Established in April 2010 by the Four Directions Aboriginal Student Centre and awarded on the basis of academic achievement to Aboriginal students entering first year of any undergraduate degree program under an Aboriginal Admission Policy.
Awarded for general proficiency and is payable in three annual installments provided a minimum GPA of 2.7 (B-) is maintained each year.
Established by a gift from the estate of Mr. Henry Dyce Howitt and awarded on the basis of high academic standing to a student entering the first year of any undergraduate program at Queen's University.
Awarded to a student entering the first year of any direct entry undergraduate program at Queen's University for high standing on two or more Grade 12U, or equivalent, Mathematics courses.
Awarded for general proficiency to a candidate who achieved high standing in Grade 12U, or equivalent, French.

Awarded to a candidate who achieved high standing on the Senior High School Mathematics Contest.
The Queen's University Memorial Fund commemorates students, alumni, faculty and staff in whose names donors have provided funds for the University. A scroll of the names of all those to be remembered is provided to each student benefiting from the fund. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit to students entering the first year of any undergraduate program at Queen's.
Established in 1951 by Lincoln Might and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering first year of any direct entry undergraduate Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree program.
Established by Alban H. Norton, P.Eng., B.A. Hons. '36, and awarded on the basis of academic standing to students entering the first year of any undergraduate program at Queen's University. Two scholarships are offered.
Principal's Scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional ability who enter Queen's from all parts of Canada. No applications are required. The Principal's Scholarship is renewable in second year provided a minimum GPA of 3.5 is maintained in year one.

Established in May 2005 through a gift made to Queen's University from the estate of Brigadier General John Cape in honour of J.B. Stirling. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a full-time student entering the first year of any direct entry undergraduate program at Queen's University.
Two scholarships payable in four annual instalments provided satisfactory standing is maintained each year.
Established in November 2002 by a bequest from the estate of Kathryn Wilson in memory of her husband, Dr. Robert John Wilson, Meds 1941. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year of any direct-entry undergraduate program at Queen's University. This scholarship is renewable for a second year provided a minimum GPA of 3.5 is achieved.
Established in October 2002 by a bequest from the estate of Edith Irene Young. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to an undergraduate student entering a first year program in any faculty or school of Queen's University.
Established by the Haldimand-Norfolk Branch of the Queen's University Alumni Association to honour Prudence Mary Austin, B.A. 1921, who retired in 1952 after 40 years in the teaching profession. Miss Austin was named Honorary President of the Haldimand-Norfolk Branch of the Alumni Association. Awarded to a student entering the first year of any direct entry undergraduate program at Queen's University from a secondary school in the Haldimand-Norfolk area, who has the highest average marks in Grade 12U, or equivalent, English and History. If no applicant offers Grade 12U, or equivalent, History, then a selection will be made on the basis of the highest mark in Grade 12U, or equivalent, English.
Awarded by the school authorities of Renfrew Collegiate Institute.
Up to eight scholarships are awarded on the basis of general proficiency to candidates who for at least one year at the time of their application have been and remain domiciled in the Province of Quebec. Students in their second year of CEGEP are also eligible for a Senator Frank Carrel Merit Scholarship. The scholarship is renewable for up to three years provided a minimum GPA of 3.5 is maintained.
The terms for this award are cross listed with automatic Arts and Science Admission awards.
Awarded by the school authorities of Renfrew Collegiate Institute.
Two scholarships will be awarded to students entering the first year of any direct-entry undergraduate program at Queen's University. Awarded to two graduating students of the Regiopolis-Notre Dame High School. Each scholarship is renewable for up to three years provided the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 2.7 (B-) each year.
Awarded on the basis of general proficiency to a graduate of an Ontario High School with preference given to a graduate of Denis O'Connor High School in Ajax, Ontario.
Two scholarships awarded to students attending Queen's from Regiopolis-Notre Dame High School.
Established in February 2007 by Queen's alumni and friends in the Edmonton area. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to students from Alberta who are entering the first year of any direct entry undergraduate program at Queen's University, with preference given to students who graduated from a high school in the Greater Edmonton Member Municipalities.
Awarded on the basis of academic proficiency to a student entering Queen's from a Stormont County or City of Cornwall High School.
Awarded annually for general proficiency to a candidate for admission to an undergraduate program from the Blenheim District High School. If in any year there is no entrance candidate, the scholarship may be given to an upper year graduate of the Blenheim District High School.
Established by Douglas A. Grant, B.A.'33 and Marjorie Grant Barber, B.A.'36 in memory of their parents, Fred and Flora Grant. Awarded to a graduate of Sydenham High School registered in the first year of any program at Queen's University.
Established by Douglas A. Grant, B.A.'33, in memory of his wife Margaret (Kerfoot) Grant, B.A.'30. Awarded to a graduate of Brockville Collegiate Institute registered in the first year of any program at Queen's University.
Awarded to a student from one of the secondary schools in Renfrew, Hawkesbury or Vankleek Hill.
Awarded for general proficiency to a student from an Ottawa secondary school.
Awarded to a graduating student of Napanee District Secondary School entering the first year of any direct entry undergraduate program at Queen's University who obtains the highest standing in the Grade 12U, or equivalent, English providing such standing is not less than 75%.
Awarded for general proficiency to a student from Stirling, Ontario.
Awarded for general proficiency to a graduate from a school in the United Counties.
Awarded to a student attending Almonte High School.
Established by Lena MacNeil, B.A.'32. Awarded on the basis of academic proficiency to students entering Queen's from Nepean High School.
Awarded to a student from Glebe Collegiate Institute.
Awarded for general proficiency to a student from an Ottawa secondary school.
Established from the estate of Mary Kathleen Thompson Van Luven and awarded to a graduate of Perth Collegiate Institute, Perth, Ontario who is proficient in science and who will be entering the first year in any undergraduate program at Queen's University.
Two scholarships awarded by the school authorities at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
Awarded to a female student entering the first year of any direct entry undergraduate program at Queen's University who makes the highest standing in Grade 12U, or equivalent, English, Latin, or Greek, plus one other language. Preference will be given to candidates from rural areas.
Established by the North Bay Branch of the Queen's Alumni Association in memory of Joe Norrie, B.Sc. 1926, and awarded to a student from the North Bay area who is entering the first year of any undergraduate program at Queen's University with high academic standing. The recipient cannot hold another entrance scholarship from Queen's University.
Ottawa Ladies' College was incorporated by Statute of the Province of Ontario in 1869 at the request of the citizens of Ottawa 'for the purpose of establishing and conducting a seminary of learning of a collegiate character for the education of female youth. Its first president was E.B. Eddy, and secretary, the Reverend William Moore. Its building was expropriated for war purposes in 1942 and it then ceased to function for the specific purpose for which it was incorporated. In order that it might use its assets for wider educational purposes its Act of Incorporation was amended in 1948 and it has now transferred its funds in trust to Carleton University, Ottawa, and Queen's University at Kingston. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering first year of any first entry undergraduate degree program from a secondary school in Ottawa.
Established in October 2003 by colleagues and friends in recognition of Robert B. Peterson, B.Sc. '59, M.Sc. '61, Chair, C.E.O., and President of Imperial Oil, and his extraordinary leadership during the Campaign for Queen's. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a student entering the first year of any direct entry undergraduate program at Queen's University. Preference will be given to students from the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta or British Columbia.
Established by Queen's University and awarded on the basis of superior academic ability to International students (including American students) entering the first year of any undergraduate program. No Separate scholarship application required. Four scholarships are available
Established in October 2011 through a bequest from the Estate of Amilcare Ramella. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students entering first year of any first entry undergraduate degree program, who are from the regional municipality of Niagara, in the Province of Ontario, with preference given to students from the city of Welland.
Established by Donald I. McLeod in memory of his father and mother and awarded annually to a candidate of scholarship calibre proceeding to Queen's University from Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

Awarded to a graduating student of the Regiopolis-Notre Dame High School entering the first year of any program at Queen's University who has a minimum grade average of 80% or equivalent. Selection will be based on academic standing and a strong background in athletics.
Established in May 2007 in memory of Akbar M. Sheikh by his family and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a male and a female student entering first year of any direct-entry undergraduate program at Queen's University. Preference will be given to international students who have Pakistani citizenship. If there is not an eligible male and female student, then the award will be awarded to two students of the same gender with Pakistani citizenship. If there are no eligible Pakistani students then the scholarships will be awarded to eligible male and female international students.
Awarded for general proficiency to a student from Simcoe County.
Awarded to a graduate of a Pembroke secondary school, resident in Pembroke, who presents the best secondary school record.
Awarded to a student attending Queen's from Sydenham High School.
Awarded to a student attending Queen's from Sydenham High School.
Awarded to a student attending Queen's from Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
Established in October 2011 by the Estate of John Arthur Carther and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students from the Counties of Stormont, Dundas or Glengarry, who are entering first year of any first entry undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science or the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
Established in April 2007 by Dr. Su-Wen Chang, B.Sc.(Hons.) 1998, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a student entering the first year of a direct-entry undergraduate program at Queen's University, with preference given to a student who graduated from Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute in Agincourt, Ontario. If there are no eligible candidates from Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student entering the first year of a direct-entry undergraduate program who graduated from any secondary school in the Agincourt and Scarborough District of the Toronto District School Board. Preference will be given to a student entering the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Established by Marie Mottashed, M.A. (Economics) 1941. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a female student entering the first year of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) program. Four scholarships are available.
Three scholarships are awarded to students who have achieved high standing in Grade 12U, or equivalent, Physics and who are pursuing a Physics program in an Honours B.Sc. program in the Faculty of Arts and Science or the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. The scholarship may be renewed for up to three years provided the recipient continues in a Physics program and maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 each year.
To be awarded annually to the student from the Smiths Falls and District Collegiate Institute who enters the Faculty of Medicine with the highest standing - but if there is no student from the Smith Falls District and Collegiate Institute entering Medicine, the Scholarship will go to the student entering Arts from that school with the highest standing.
Established in May 2007 by Peter R.B. Armstrong and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Queen's School of Business, with preference given to students who demonstrate evidence of entrepreneurial achievements.
Established in May 2005 by the Commerce Class of 1954 to mark the occasion of their 50th reunion and to leave a legacy for future generations. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a student entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Queen's School of Business.

Established in February 2010 by Rick Martin in honour of his daughter, Shelley Martin, B.Comm 2009, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to two students entering first year of the Bachelor of Commerce Program in Queen's School of Business.
Established by Brian E. Martin, B.Com. '99, and Matthew V. Malcolm, B.Com. '99 in honour of their outstanding professors, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated leadership to a student entering the first year of the Commerce program in the School of Business. Preference will be given to students from the province of Alberta.
Established in July 2007 and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to outstanding applicants to the Masters of Management program in the School of Business at Queen's University, focusing on the overall quality of the student's application to the program as reflected in the candidate's previous academic performance and standing on the required entrance tests.
Established in October 2006 by members of the class of MBA 1981 in recognition of the 25th anniversary of graduation from Queen's School of Business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated community leadership to a minimum of two students entering the Queen's MBA program in the School of Business. Preference will be given to students who may otherwise not be able to attend the MBA program at Queen's University, as determined by the School of Business Awards Committee and approved by the Associate Dean MBA programs.
Established in September 2006 by Thomas McLaren, B.Com. 1949, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year Commerce program in the Queen's School of Business.

Established in March 2013 by John Nixon, B.Com. 1978, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence, creative and original thinking, proven leadership skills, and involvement in school or community activities to students entering first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Queen's School of Business. Preference will be given to US citizens or students living in the US. The award is renewable for three years provided a minimum GPA of 3.5 is maintained in a full-time course load in each subsequent year, and involvement in leadership and extra-curricular activities remains evident. Selection will be made by the Office of the University Registrar, Student Awards, as delegated by the Senate Committee on Scholarships and Student Aid.
Established by Queen's School of Business in celebration of the opening of Goodes Hall on September 12, 2002 and awarded on the basis of academic merit and leadership activities in school or the community to students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the School of Business.

Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year program in the School of Business at Queen's University.

Established by his niece, Miss Catherine Boyle, in memory of James Osborne Clothier, B.A. 1900, formerly of Kemptville, Ontario. Awarded annually to a graduate of the North Grenville Secondary School who is entering the first year of a direct-entry undergraduate program at Queen's University on the basis of academic excellence. Preference will first be given to a student entering the Concurrent Education program and then to a student who has completed the equivalent of a senior-level high school French.

Established by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science in honour of Professor Emeritus R.H. Clark, a member of the Department of Chemical Engineering for over thirty-seven years. This award was established to recognize Dr. Clark's outstanding contribution as Centennial Coordinator in the success of the 100th anniversary of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science in 1993. Awarded for high academic standing to a student entering the first year of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
Established in July 2011 by Eugene Gierczak, B.Sc. 1974, as a tribute to the inspiration from his parents, Tadeusz and Stephania. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to Canadian citizens or permanent residents entering first year of the first entry undergraduate degree program of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
Established in November 2003 by a bequest from the estate of Georgina Joan Grant in memory of her husband, Jack Grant. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering first year of the first entry Applied Science undergraduate degree program. The scholarship is renewable for one subsequent year provided a minimum GPA of 3.5 is maintained.
Established in February 2007 by Don McGeachy, B.Sc. 1940, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year undergraduate program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, who have an overall admission average of at least 90%, which includes the high school prerequisite courses and English.
Awarded by the Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education, on the recommendations of the University’s Faculty of Applied Science to well-rounded students entering the first year of a first entry accredited engineering program who have a high academic standing and exhibit characteristics of leadership. One scholarship is to be awarded to a male student and the other to a female student.
Established in March 2001 and awarded to students entering the first year program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science on the basis of academic excellence. Two scholarships are available.
Established in March 2009 by the Estate of Robert Papoe, B.Com. 1978, and awarded to a student entering the first year of the undergraduate program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science on the basis of academic excellence in the subject of English in the year directly preceding his or her admission to the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
Established in October 2006 from the estates of Jean Pitt, B.A. 1932, and Stanley Pitt, B.Sc. 1930, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year undergraduate program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
Established in February 2007 by Catherine Purcell, B.Sc.(Hons.) 1978, B.Ed. 1985, M.Ed. 1998, and Michael Purcell, B.Sc.(Eng) 1975, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a student entering the first year program of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.

The Science 1946 Memorial Entrance Scholarship is maintained by the Class of Science '46 as a memorial to the members who gave their lives in World War II. Awarded to a student on the basis of academic excellence entering the first year program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
Established in May 2007 by Transportation Association of Canada Foundation and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year program of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
Established by family and friends in memory of Robert Shotton, Commerce '68. Awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Art on the basis of the portfolio presentation of a student entering the first year of the Bachelor of Fine Art Program.
Established by C.S. Burton and awarded annually to a graduate of a secondary school on the counties of Frontenac, Leeds, Lennox and Addington, and Prince Edward, entering the School of Physical and Health Education at Queen's University. Awarded on the basis of high academic proficiency and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
Established by Dalton R. Mercer, B.A./B.P.H.E.'56. Awarded to a student entering first year from Sutton District High School. Preference will be given to a student entering the combined program in Arts and Physical and Health Education. If no eligible candidate is available from Sutton District High School, the award may go to a student from either (1) Newmarket District High School or (2) Keswick High School.
Established in April 2007 through gifts made to Queen’s University, Faculty of Law by alumni and friends in celebration of its 50th anniversary and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year of the J.D. program. All students applying for admission to Queen’s Faculty of Law J.D. program are automatically considered. No separate application is required. Selection will be made by the Dean of Law in consultation with the Assistant Dean of Students.
Established in July 2004 in honour of Beate and Istvan Anhalt by Jennifer and Rocco Marcello. Istvan Anhalt, LL.D. (honoris causa, Queen's) Mus.D. (honoris causa, McGill), Professor Emeritus of Music, is a distinguished composer and teacher, and was former Head of the Department of Music at Queen's University (1971-81). Awarded on the recommendation of the School of Music to students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Music program who show promise in either composition or performance. If there are no eligible entering students then the scholarship may be awarded to upper year students who specialize in composition or performance.
Established in February 2007 by Margaret Farr and awarded on the basis of academic achievement to an undergraduate student entering full-time studies in the first year of a Bachelor of Music program in the School of Music, who demonstrates exceptional ability in the area of performance on a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or double bass). If there is no eligible candidate entering first year, then the scholarship may be granted to an upper year student on the basis of academic achievement, who demonstrates exceptional ability in the area of performance on a string instrument.
Established in memory of Donna Frazer Gobin, distinguished teacher of piano and studio instructor of piano at Queen's. Awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Music to a student in the Bachelor of Music program whose major instrument is the piano. Preference will be given to students entering Queen's for the first time.
Established in March 2009 by Helen A. Howard, B.A. 1948, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Music degree program whose principal instrument is bassoon. If there are no eligible entrance candidates, the scholarship will be granted to an upper year student in the Bachelor of Music degree program with preference to a student whose principal instrument is bassoon.
Established in April 2004 by a bequest from the estate of Craig L. Hoyt and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering or currently registered in the Bachelor of Music program whose applied area of study is voice.
Established in memory of Randall Marsh, distinguished teacher of voice at Queen's. Awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Music to a student in the Bachelor of Music program whose major is voice.
Established by friends and admirers of George N. Maybee, D.Litt., F.R.S.C.M., late distinguished teacher, organist and Master of Choristers at St.George's Cathedral, Kingston, Ontario. Two or three scholarships are awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Department of Music, to full-time students in the B.Mus. program whose major applied study is the organ or who show special aptitude in choral conducting, with preference being given to the former in cases of equal or near equal merit. Second-class standing in music courses as well as overall second-class standing is required to qualify for consideration for the award. Entrance candidates will be considered on the basis of promise. Further preference will be given to candidates who have attended a school in Frontenac County. In addition, candidates will receive special consideration if they have practised, or intend to practice, the profession of music as church organists, choir directors or choristers.

Five scholarships awarded on the recommendation of the School of Music with preference given to students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Music program. First year recipients are eligible to have their scholarships renewable for a second year provided the recipient achieves a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the first year.
Established in May 2001 through a bequest received from Helene Bracken in memory of Dr. Franklin C. Bracken, Meds. 1911, and Helene K. Bracken, and awarded to students entering the first year program in the School of Nursing on the basis of outstanding academic achievement.

McGeachy, Science '40 (Mechanical) to honour his wife, Joan Macdonald McGeachy (Bachelor of Nursing, McGill University), (Master of Arts, University of Toronto) for her significant contribution to the profession of Nursing, especially through her years as Executive Director of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year program in the School of Nursing in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Established in March 2007 to recognize academic achievement and athletic excellence to student-athletes entering the first year of a direct-entry undergraduate degree program at Queen's University and who are on the competition roster of a Golden Gaels interuniversity athletic team. The award is renewable for three subsequent years provided a minimum GPA of 2.7 (B-) is maintained during the Fall and Winter terms and the student satisfies the athletic performance criteria defined for an elite athlete on a Golden Gaels interuniversity athletic team. The award will be administered in compliance with all CIS and OUA regulations.

Smith, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina in memory of his mother Catherine Gertrude (Milliken) Smith, B.A. 1924, who, while attending Queen's, played for and managed the varsity women's basketball team. Awarded to recognize academic achievement and athletic excellence to student-athletes entering the first year of a direct-entry undergraduate degree program at Queen's University and who is on the competition roster of the Golden Gaels interuniversity women's basketball team. The award will be administered in compliance with all CIS and OUA regulations.
