Queen’s University royal historian Carolyn Harris is available to talk about Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter (Zara Phillips) winning a silver medal at the Summer Olympics on Tuesday in the eventing team jumping event (equestrian).

Dr. Harris notes this is not the first time a royal has earned an Olympic medal. Zara father, Mark Phillips (Princess Anne’s ex-husband) won a gold in Munich in 1972 for equestrian. The future King Olav V of Norway (a nephew of King George V of Great Britain) won a gold medal in sailing in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. Zara’s mom competed in Montreal in 1976 but did not win a medal.

Dr. Harris is available to talk about other royal family members who have competed at the Olympics, as well as comment on the British royal family’s involvement at the London Games. She has written previously about members of the British royal family competing in Olympic events on her blog at www.royalhistorian.com.
